HIP HIP HIPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEE!

GUTHRIE, Okla. - You hear that?
That's the sound of music.
News broke Tuesday morning of a two-day folk festival coming to Guthrie, Okla. featuring some of the industry's breakout artists.
The highly acclaimed English quartet Mumford & Sons will headline the event, scheduled for Sept. 6 and 7.
The 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Festival will only be stopping in five cities -- and only three in the U.S. -- making the announcement an even more welcome surprise.
Created by the band in 2012, last year's Grammy nominees said the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover spots are chosen specifically for their small-town feel.
On the festival's website, the Mumford & Sons bandmates wrote:
"It’s a real privilege that being in Mumford & Sons has allowed us to be able to shine a light on these towns, places that sometimes don’t get the love they deserve, and to be the facilitators of great musical coming-togethers."
Other bands making the trip include Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Alabama Shakes, The Vaccines, Half Moon Run, Willy Mason, Those Darlins and Bear's Den.

Located 35 miles North of Oklahoma City, Guthrie was the original capitol of the Oklahoma territories. The two-day Stopover event will take place at Cottonwood Flats, just across the river from historic downtown. A fleet of iconic vintage trolley cars will shuttle patrons back-and-forth between the event site and downtown for aftershows, street parties, and other surprises.

To truly experience the Stopover, we recommend camping at Cottonwood Flats, steps from the concert site. The music will begin on the evening of Friday, September 6, and continue with an all-day concert on Saturday, September 7.

Confirmed lineup includes: Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (Friday), Alabama Shakes, The Vaccines, Half Moon Run, Willy Mason (Friday), Those Darlins and Bear’s Den, with more to be announced.

PREPARATION OF THE BELIEVER

I have tried to have a more Catholic understanding of Lent with no great outcome. I am a Methodist and I think we just scratch the surface. We (my family and I) talk of what we will 'give up' each year, stick to it and then go back to our old ways.

In the year Betty used a pacifier, I decided on Ash Wednesday to give it up. And people said, you mean she will give it up? To which I responded, it is my crutch. I use it when she is fussy or crying or difficult as a way to PACIFY MYSELF. So I did, and Betty never touched a pacifier again. It was much harder for me to make that commitment. She didn't seem the least bit annoyed or frustrated.

So it is time (most of you will be saying FINALLY FOR PETE'S SAKE), to give up Betty sleeping in my bed. This Ash Wednesday I will commit to creating a needed space between us although, once again, it is my crutch. I feel like she is safe when she is right next to me and I love being able to hear her laugh in her sleep or hold her close if she is afraid. BUT she is 5.5, and just like mastering her bike, it is just time. She also grinds her teeth and slaps me in the face from time to time. So this morning we talked about making her room more comfortable. We moved the fan and will add a down comforter tonight. She said she doesn't want her closet light on because it scares her the most to think about what's in her closet.

I hope as I grow older I will have a much more spiritual grasp on Lent. I will understand Jesus' suffering in a much deeper way and HOW MUCH WAS SACRIFICED FOR US. For now, I hope making some small family change is enough. Some form of self-denial, things cycling and changing and growing and THANKING GOD every second that she is only a hallway away.....

SIXTH SENSE

Yesterday, as Betty walked a step or two behind me, a man passed us and had this enormous grin on his face. When I turned around, I saw her following with eyes closed and hands reaching. She said Momma, I don't have to see you. I can follow your sense.

The unexplainable connection between mother and child.

As we have completed half of this kindergarten year and tackled tasks such as training wheel removal and learning to read, I have realized how much faith my wee child must have in her mother. Faith I will pack her lunch or read the next chapter of Indian in the Cupboard or remind her to brush. As I guide her along, she hopefully realizes how much I love her through these simple acts. They seem trivial to most mothers but truly shape our children each and every day. I am not perfect. In fact, I did not see that she left her lunch pail in the car today and so she had to eat from the cafeteria line. But I try very hard and believe she can close her little eyes now and then and still feel me there. She can trust and have faith and follow my sense.....

TONTO, RUN LIKE THE WIND!!!

My cousin Cassie will be mortified when she sees this video. We spent a ton of our childhood roaming around the plains and in her dad's horse barn and on water trucks and breaking ice and things of that nature. We both had cowboy fathers and learned to saddle up at an early age. Let me just say: 32 year old Grace on a horse=EPIC FAIL. Actually this was somewhat of a success compared to the last outing, when I seemed to care not about a saddle and fell off mid-trot. Not this time boys and girls. No sirrreeeeeeeeeee. As we galloped and  I felt the wind in my hair, I somehow managed to stay on ole Cinderalla. I'm pretty sure I was a jockey in my past life.
