JUST CALL ME THE EGG WHISPERER!

WE ARE DOING IT UP RIGHT THIS TIME BY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. So operation fresh chicken eggs wasn't a complete success last go round. Let's just calling it a learning experience. This time we are combining our lessons learned with additional research, some safety precautions and a whole lot of fun. We have been selective about which breeds to purchase and choosing the perfect coop took a couple of weeks. Betty held one of the new ladies last night and we are all excited about this new approach. We have spent loads of time talking to our NUMBER ONE CHICKEN CONSULTANT about training, heating lamps, food, water, wing clipping, etc. We are also going to have some very large girls in a few months. And perhaps even a lime green egg! WE.GOT.THIS. Round 2 has commenced!!!

BREAKFAST ON THE PATIO

Moments do not get better than this, truly.

FEARLESS

Um, excuse me but aren't you supposed to be nervous about losing your first tooth? Don't parents normally have to threaten tying the tooth to a doorknob or something? EXCUSE ME but what kid pulls their own tooth out in the recess line? My mom sent this photo after school yesterday and I responded with NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I wanted to be there. I thought surely I was instrumental in this process. It was shocking enough to realize I have a child old enough to lose teeth. There is absolutely note one single bit of baby left. She is completely 100% kid. Pouring her own juice, sleeping in her own bed and pulling out her own teeth. So, as usual, this mom was completely and utterly surprised by this tiny lady's bravery. I can imagine her standing there in her long Maxi dress, denim jacket and boots and simply yanking her tooth out like it ain't no thang.

Me: Weren't you afraid it would hurt? B: It didn't hurt and it didn't even bleed. Me: What do you think the Tooth Fairy will bring? B: I don't know but when I was in the bank two men (the bank examiners she's never met in her life) gave me $1 each when they saw my missing tooth. They told me if I put it under my pillow, the Tooth Fairy might replace it with more money.

I slipped her a $20. What the hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WINNER WINNER TOFU DINNER!

It’s a great honor for me to be here tonight,” said Rex Linn, an actor who starred in “CSI: Miami” and who accepted the award on behalf of the Barkley Street project. “I grew up in Spearman, and I embraced art early on by walking into the Lyric Theatre in Spearman. It is imperative in our communities that we embrace art in all its forms.”

"On behalf of the Hansford County Art Alliance, I would like to accept the Golden Touch Award. I find this to be particularly appropriate, as the event certainly touched the students and citizens of Hansford County. This art walk has been instrumental in raising awareness and art appreciation which is vital especially in small town communities."

The First Annual Barkley Street Art Walk was held on October 20, 2012 on the tree lined streets of Barkley in Spearman, Texas. Over 150 guests came out to view the eclectic artwork displayed by:

The Spearman High School Art Students
SHS Art Teacher Liz White
Kathryn Kleekamp of Sandwich, MA
Kader Boly of Burkina Faso, South Africa
Doug Ricketts
Amy Winton
Marilyn Yanke
Jack Sorenson
Josh Sorenson

All profits (over $2300 raised by the Alliance and $700 raised by the SHS students' artwork) will benefit the arts in Hansford County. The Alliance recently donated $500 to assist students attending an art trip to Santa Fe in June. The next event will be on Barkley Street on October 5, 2013. You can like the Art Alliance of Hansford County on Facebook.

BETTYISMS

She has been saying some pretty funny stuff lately.....

When describing a co-worker of Brian's at the bank:
"He's got black hair, glasses and he's sort of peach."

"Where do babies come from if people aren't married? New Mexico?"

"Reese (across the street neighbor) told me he liked my bike but he didn't say if he liked my moves (tricks on her bike ie riding with no hands or standing up)."

"I want a cherry rollover for breakfast."

Walking into the house one evening:
"HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWDY WHOOOOOOOOOOO!"

When waking her in the morning:
"Can I go back to sleep while you cook breakfast? I need to finish my dream."

When asking if she wants to play t-ball:
"What if I don't win like in soccer?"

Praying before dinner:
"Dear Lord, we are so glad we don't live on the streets."

Hearts so full......
